Appomattox County Museum

APPOMATTOX COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM

(Click on Museum photo for more pictures)

The County Museum is located on Court Street in downtown Appomattox Virginia in the County Courthouse complex. Click on Map Locator  for precise location.

The Museum is housed in a Jeffersonian style building whose construction began in 1895. It was the third jail built in Appomattox County  and was in continuous use from 1897 until 1981. Following the construction of a more modern facility the County Board of Supervisors allowed the Appomattox Historical Society to develop a Museum dedicated to County History.

Currently, the Museum has rooms dedicated to various facets of Appomattox County life. Among the exhibits are an old jail cell, a country doctor's office, a turn of the century home kitchen, a collection of artifacts relating to the Appomattox River Indians, Civil War memorabilia, Various items of interest from Other Wars and a Gift Shop. Click on the underlined titles for a glimpse of these areas of interest.
