Historic Society Events & Activities

 Picnic

 Membership Picnic July 12, 2005

The Historic Society held it's July meeting in the Cedar Grove between the Grady Cabin and the Hardy School.

Members brought covered dishes of vegetables or desserts. Patsy Wilson supplied Fried Chicken, Pork Barbecue and Beverages.

There were 50 members and friends present despite 86 degree, humid weather and a forecast of scattered showers.

The rain held off and everyone enjoyed the social atmosphere, interrupted only briefly for a few announcements by Pres. Buddy Conner.

Following the meeting six new members joined the Society with expectations that more will follow in the next few days.

First Fall Festival a Success!

On Saturday, September 24th the Society held it's first "Fall Fesival" at Clover Hill Village. The weather was clear, a cool 82 degrees and dry.

We had about 85 people in attendance plus the musicians and docents.

The main music program  was provided by "Deja Vu", "Peter and Paul". Corbin Hayslett entertained with his banjo from the porch of the General Store. Corbin is recuperating from a broken leg so he did not move around much.

"Buck Owens" demonstrated the blacksmith's art, Peggy Richardson showed us how to prepare food using a fireplace instead of a stove. Pamela Klein was weaving yarn from wool on the porch of the Grady Cabin. The Children enjoyed sack races but the real hit was attending school as it was in the Old Days.
